RPI, located in southeastern Wisconsin,  has been a supplier to the automotive parts business for over 30 years. Approximately 10 years ago, RPI developed what is termed “Switch Rack” based technology for auto inverter testing. RPI Switch Racks provide automatic switching capability between up to 6 Inverters Under Test and a single Test Controller, DC supply, and load. Key to the design was the development of the RPI “AirSwitchTM” technology, a revolutionary approach to managing the automatic (no operator involvement) switching of high current cabling from one unit under test to another. Correlation and/or set up validation issues are reduced significantly  because each of the six units under test interface to a single test system, load, and DC source.

Switch Racks offer a small footprint, high throughput solution to production and DVT testing of eV/HV inverters. The RPI SWR-06-800 is rated at 1000V and 800A for both the DC input and the AC load.  A 1000V / 1400A upgraded design is underway. Every component in an eV/HV powertrain is under significant cost pressure.
